RBG Academy - A community, a non-profit, and an NGO.

Welcome to RBG Academy - a transformative community, a dedicated non-profit, and a proactive international NGO. Since our inception in 2017, we embarked on an extraordinary journey that has impacted the lives of countless families and students.

Our humble beginnings took shape in the cozy family room of our founder’s home, with just two families attending our first classes. But as word spread, our community quickly expanded, welcoming numerous families seeking educational excellence centered around the global contribution of our ancestors.

In response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, we adapted and transitioned to an online platform while continuing to serve over 50 students and their families. Recognizing the need to support homeschooling families, we established our 501(c)(3) branch, offering assistance with extracurricular classes (DREAM Big), financial management classes, and more.

A cornerstone of our non-profit's mission is to ensure that every student has access to a US passport, particularly addressing the disparity evidenced in studies of African-American children who are less likely to travel abroad. We firmly believe that exposure to different cultures through travel fosters compassion and enriches young minds. Since launching our Passport to Progress program in 2021, we have helped ten students obtain passports, removing barriers to life-changing opportunities.

Our dedication to our community extends beyond education. RBG Academy, Inc. has provided essential support to needy families, helping with groceries, clothing, and overdue bills. Generous donations even allowed one family to own a vehicle for the very first time!

Further meeting the needs of our community, RBG Academy, Inc., hosts financial literacy programs such as our Youth Entrepreneur Pitch Competition and Stock Options event, where students create and build a real-life stock portfolio, creating generation wealth as part of their legacy.

We offer community events, like The Black-ticum, a free online forum where Black parents can discuss ideas and concerns around educating our children, educational legislation, and more.

Recognizing the significance and impact of our African heritage, we took our mission to the continent itself. In 2023, RBG Academy International was born, creating cross-cultural opportunities for US students while establishing mobile and physical libraries in Tanzania. Our NGO efforts have already touched the lives of over 600 students in Dar Es Salaam, promoting literacy, innovation, value, and education (LIVE).

Looking ahead, RBG Academy International plans to foster personal connections between students in the US and students in classrooms in across Tanzania, both virtually and in person. Our goal is to build a global community, uniting students of the diaspora and actively embracing the Umoja (unity) principle across cultures.

At RBG Academy, RBG Academy, Inc., and RBG Academy International, we are driven by the belief that African-centered education has the power to change lives. By sharing unique and life-changing opportunities, we are nurturing a brighter future for our students and families, creating a world where knowledge and compassion thrive. Join us on this empowering journey of growth and understanding.
