Black History Rewind (12-week, History Only)

*COVID-19 really threw us for a loop.  No worries, though!  We will open a 12-week online class, featuring our history session.

At RBG Academy, we are intentional in the way we present our story to our students.  This 12-week course will introduce a number of the original nations that populated Africa prior to the colonization, brutalization and enslavement of our people.

As we seek to empower and educate our youth, we must make it absolutely imperative to never begin the telling of our story with the Maafa (also known as the African Holocaust, or the enslavement, exploitation and colonization of our ancestors and our ancestral land). Join as we explore our story from our perspective.

Content: This season, students will explore some of the original civilizations that began in Africa.

Deeper Roots

*COVID-19 really threw us for a loop.  Don’t worry! Our mentor-aged students will still have a chance to dig deeper into the study of our story. We now have a 12-week online class available for our high school students, featuring our history session and the study of two thought provoking texts (titles provided after enrollment).

We have full confidence in our mentor-aged students. They are prepared to study our story at a deeper level to establish even deeper roots. As they prepare for adulthood, this course will give them the freedom to ask tough questions, create and facilitate discussions and even apply knowledge to modern history. We encourage the mentors to wrestle with common misconceptions and to have critical and respectful discussion with their peers. Our goal is to help them to develop their own thoughts and convictions and to provide a platform where they know their voice matters and will be heard.

Content: This season, students will explore some of the original civilizations that began in Africa along with two text studies for critical discussion.
