The Village Experience

This 12-week class bundle incorporates our influence across History, Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Finance disciplines. For approximately 2 1/2 hours each week, you and your child will be immersed in these subjects from the perspective that exalts and uplifts our identity. The students will learn:

  • Our History: This Revolution covers the true story of how our ancestors arrived in the United States. We never begin our story with the enslavement of our people. Yet, we can uphold their story with integrity and teach the truth from that period through modern times using our unique approach. We also use leveled instruction to provide age-appropriate information to the students. In this way, parents are free to engage in further discussion with their child at home. (Sessions 1 and 2)
  • Math Exploration: We explore mathematical concepts introduced by our ancestors (Session 1). Additionally, students will examine mathematical games that our ancestors played (Session 2),
  • Language Arts: Students are taught to develop and exercise their voices for self expression and impactful communication. This year we will take an indepth look at parts of speech (Session 1) and the poetry and communication styles of our ancestors (Session 2).
  • Finance: Preparing for the future, both short and long term, is essention for our community. Students will be taught about investing and given the tools to monitor, buy/sell, and trade effectively on the US stock market. We also instill the importance of using resources to help build our communities.
  • Science: K-12 students will explore the wonderful world of chemistry. From elements, the periodic table to caluculating chemical equations, our unique approach will have the youngest students understanding concepts and the parents involved and competing to answer questions correctly (Mmhmm, we haven’t forgotten about that, L.S.).

Black History Rewind (12-week, History Only)

At RBG Academy, we are intentional in the way we present our story to our students. This Revolution covers the true story of how our ancestors arrived in the United States.

As we seek to empower and educate our youth, we must make it absolutely imperative to never begin the telling of our story with the Maafa (also known as the African Holocaust, or the enslavement, exploitation and colonization of our ancestors and our ancestral land). Join as we explore this small part of our story from our perspective.

Meeting Time: 10:00 AM (PST) – 11:00 PM (PST)

Deeper Roots

We have full confidence in our mentor-aged students (9th-12th grades). They are prepared to study our story at a deeper level to establish even deeper roots. As they prepare for adulthood, this course will give them the freedom and a safe space to ask tough questions, create and facilitate respectful discussions and even apply knowledge to modern history. We encourage the mentors to use their foices taht theymay be empowered to communicate their ideas in a positive and impactful way.

Students will explore the truth of our ancestor’s arduous journey to the United States. We cover their stories, victories and challenges prior to colonization through modern timelines. Students will also be required to read literary selections that will both challenge and strengthen their worldview. Literature titles are provided upon completed registration and can be found at your local bookstore or library.
